Student Assistant/ HiWi at the Haptic Intelligence department (m/f/div)
The Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems in Stuttgart is looking for a student assistant (m/f/div) to support their project.
Are you interested in bipedal robots? Do you want to gain hands-on experience with robot hardware, electronics, and software? Help the team in the further development of their small bipedal robot (EcoWalker).
As part of the Haptic Intelligence department in Stuttgart they are researching topics around dynamic locomotion with bipedal human-like, bird-like and dinosaur-like robots.
Role & Responsibities
MPI-IS is looking for a student with a Bachelor of Science degree in mechatronics, mechanical engineering or robotics to support the project for 4-5 months.
Possible tasks include:
- CAD design of robot parts
- 3D-printing and manufacturing of robot parts
- Assembling and debugging the robot’s hardware and electronics
- Tuning bipedal robot control code
- Running experiments with the bipedal robot (EcoWalker)
- Documenting control and design changes
- Evaluating and plotting experimental results
- Scientific writing
The position will allow you to gain hands-on experience with robotic hardware, software, and scientific experiment procedures. You will be part of the ongoing research in bipedal robotics and human walking.
Education and Experience
Ideally, applicants should have:
- high motivation
- a bachelor's degree in a related subject
- strong academic performance in relevant bachelor’s courses
- good design skills in Solidworks/Inventor
- hands-on experience working with hardware (sensors and actuators)
- experience with 3D-printing
- outstanding documentation skills
- detail-oriented work-ethic
- good programming skills in Python/MATLAB
- hands-on experience working with electronics
- interest in working in an international and inter-disciplinary research group
- good oral and very good written skills in English
- be able to work on-site at the Max-Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems in Stuttgart, Germany
The Offer
Student assistants with a bachelor degree will be paid €14.40 per hour. Working time up to 20 hours per week in lecture period, and up to 39 hours per week in lecture-free period.
